The native cousin to the invasive “Purple Loosestrife” this plant is now endangered in New England, but still occurs commonly in the Midwest. New York has a few populations but the plant is losing ground in the state due to land development and the spread of purple loosestrife. Its long-lasting purple blooms attract bees and butterflies from June into early September.
